Gary Allan
Although Allan is grouped with the New Country acts, he is
more in keeping with the traditions of George Jones and Merle Haggard than most.
He was brought up on the surfing coastline, but his father loved country music
and they played together in a country band. Allan formed his own trucking
company and used his savings to finance a demo. He signed with Decca 'because
they didn't want to change anything'. His debut album included a new Garth
Brooks song, 'From Where I'm Standing', but the key cut is 'Her Man', which had
been recorded by Waylon Jennings . 'Her Man' (the subject of which was 'an S.O.B.
right down to the letter') was a Top 10 country single early in 1997
