Sawyer BrownIn 1983, Sawyer Brown took part in the popular television talent show, Star Search. They won the first prize of $100,000 and a recording contract. Their first single, 'Leona', was a US country hit and they toured with Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Their second single, a country number 1 hit, 'Step That Step' (1985), was about the perseverance needed in the music business. They established themselves as a goodtime country band and had further country hits with 'Used To Blue', 'Betty's Bein' Bad', 'This Missin' You Heart Of Mine' and a remake of George Jones' 'The Race Is On'. 'My Baby's Gone' made number 11 on the country charts in 1988 and, despite losing some of their impetus, they returned with two Top 5 hits from 1992's successful The Dirt Road. Having consistently produced Top 10 hits since then, they went on to win the Vocal Group Award at the 32nd Academy Of Country Music Awards.
